PHILOSOPHY OF BIRTH
A doula’s role is to support a woman and her partner
during the birth process.  If a woman is well-supported
during the birth of her baby, she is more likely to feel
satisfied with her birth.  Medical interventions are
sometimes helpful and sometimes necessary.  A doula’s
role is also to help the birthing woman and her partner be
informed consumers so they can work as a team with the
doctor/midwife/nurses during the birth process.  If a
woman is well-informed and well-supported, no matter
what the outcome of her birth (natural childbirth with no
medical intervention, pain relief, induced labor, or
Caesarian birth) she is more  likely to have positive birth
memories and to be better able to mother her newborn.
